My name is Alejandra, and I am a dentist. I live with my daughter, Jimena, who is 12 years old and currently in sixth grade at school. Our home is shared with three friendly small dogs, three rabbits, and some fish. For the past six years, we have been hosting students, and it would be a pleasure to welcome you into our home and make you part of our family.

  • Here is my review of my host Alejandra:

    1. 📝Written Comment:
      1. Property: The house itself is like a dream. Spacious, confortable, with good flow of air for the hot days. We have free access to everything, including all equipment and food in the kitchen, and we are free to bring friends over, and the house has space for everyone to be accomodated without being crowded. We have privacy from the host and other roommates. The house is filled with plants, art and decor that makes it a home. It also has a lot of animals, both pets (dogs, cat, birds) and visitors (monkeys, lizards, birds and frogs). It has a big, beautiful backyear as well.
      2. Services: Sandra is the name of the woman that will treat you like a princess. She works monday to saturday from 5am to 2pm on cleaning the place and the clothes, cooking delicious meals, general services, taking care of everything and everyone. You will have anything you need, if you ask her or Ale. The fridge is always completely full and you can take anything at anytime withou asking. Sandra cleans your room and does your laundry as often as you ask her, but usually once a week. Her crazu hours are also good because when you get home from uni, she will be already going home herself, so the afternoon will be more quiet for you to study.
      3. Positives: No time is spent on cleaning or cooking. Compared to other places and the services they (don't) provide, this is very cheap (many colegues had 400+ rent on places where they still had to buy their food, for example). Alejandra and her Daughter Jimena are amazing people and they are very dedicated to making you feel at home and confortable, which means they will talk with you if you want but also leave you alone if you want; they also were constantly getting better things for my room, so the desk for studies and the curtains changed at least once throughout the year. They will help you get whatever you need, so for example, once I had my period and didn't have any tampons and they prontly gave me a full box 'just in case'. Alejandra has offered to take me and friends (that did not live in the house with us!) to volcanoes and to other tourist points. When my father visited me, he was able to stay confortably in the house and she even effoered that we use her car without paying extra!!
      4. Negatives: the house is located far from town, it is a 25 min walk in bad pavement to get anywhere, including bus stops for San José. The bus for university stops closer to our house in the morning, so it's a 6 minute walk, but not in the afternoon, so you have to walk longer at least once a day. Another thing is that the house is always busy and with an early schedule. There always is someone working on the house, being them Sandra or another professional, even on weekends; and they all start really early in the morning (Sandra starts at 5am everyday), which gives us a calmer afternoon if no one else is coming; this also brings a little unconfort because there will be strangers unannounced in the house (BUT NEVER INSIDE YOUR BEDROOM). Only on sundays we would have a late morning and a possibility of the whole day being quiet.
For me especifically, my room was the closest to Alejandra's room and the wall between the rooms is not fully closed up to the ceiling, so I could hear her whole life. She is a very loud person, especially with her eletronic devices, and she is ALWAYS calling someone or listening/watching something on her phone or computer, even on odd hours like 4am. Many times I had to put earphones on to get some sleep whenever I wanted. Unfortunatelly, that closeness of the rooms also meant I was able to hear her be intimate with her boyfriend a few times, in which the earphones also helped. I did not talk to her to try to solve this, but I believe she would be open for discussion.
