We are a warm and welcoming Costa Rican family of five, and for over 25 years, we’ve had the joy of opening our home to students from all over the world who come to study at the University for Peace. What started as hosting quickly became something much more meaningful — building lifelong friendships, learning from each other, and creating unforgettable cultural exchanges. Over the years, we’ve had the chance to travel abroad and visit students who once lived with us, and many have come back to Costa Rica to visit our family again. We still keep in touch with several former guests — and knowing where life has taken them continues to be one of our greatest rewards. At Casa Altura, every student is personally invited to our home for a meal or a traditional Costa Rican gathering. We love sharing our culture and giving our guests a chance to experience the warmth of a Tico family celebration. But we also fully understand and respect those who prefer a quieter, more independent lifestyle — and we’ve had many students who’ve been perfectly happy keeping to themselves and still felt completely at home here. Over the years, we’ve learned to adapt to different personalities and cultures, offering both connection and privacy, depending on what each guest needs. We also love learning about your culture — and always encourage our guests to share their traditions, holidays, and favorite foods with us. Our home is not only a place to stay, but a place to feel seen, respected, and celebrated for who you are. We look forward to welcoming you into our home — and maybe into our hearts, too.
